President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) announced that the start of the construction of branches of the Banco de Bienestar and the company “Internet para Todos”, a subsidiary of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), are a sign of the fulfillment of his administration in terms of social responsibility.
He criticized that there are large delays because there is no banking service throughout the national territory nor is the entire country covered with the Internet network, because the private sectors - both banking and telecommunications institutions - have only concentrated in large population centers.
“The State has to fulfill its social responsibility to disperse the 300 billion pesos of social programs throughout the country,” he assured.
He asked private banks not to demand Chile Mobile Number List the construction of Banco del Bienestar branches, since they have every right to build these financial units in towns where they do not have a presence.
He assured that private banks have every right to establish branches in any part of the country, although he considered that they will not do so in remote areas because they do not consider it a business.
“Since they are not going to do it because they do not consider it a business, we have to do it because we have to deal with public business; “The State cannot fail to fulfill its social responsibility,” he stressed.
He said that banks and telecommunications companies have not paid attention to small populations because it is not profitable for them, and he considered that this makes the public sector different from the private sector in terms of social responsibility.
The Mexican president has indicated that the State has to fulfill its social responsibility, boost productivity, support poor people, invest and generate jobs.
AMLO mentioned that “bank branches are necessary, if we do not bring these services closer to the communities we will not promote the development of the country, it is important that these automated card collection systems and the digital communication system exist.”
The investment for these federal projects is 10 billion for bank branches and another 10 billion for the operation of Internet for All.
He noted that “if it were not for the State, all the towns in Mexico would not have been electrified, because the companies would have only electrified small cities and towns. In cases where infrastructure growth, such as telecommunications, was left in the hands of individuals, the result is that 75% of the territory does not have Internet.”
The figures for banking reach in the country's municipalities offered by the President contradict those reported by the banking industry, while in terms of the Internet, the current Red Compartida, operated by the company Altán Redes and the Ministry of Communications and Transportation and which It is the largest project derived from the telecommunications reform, it reports that it currently has a coverage range of 50.18% of the Mexican population.
They will remove contracts from renewable energy producers
On another issue, the President affirmed that there is no arbitrariness in the review and possible cancellation of the subsidy contracts between the CFE and private companies focused on renewable energy.
He explained that citizens were deceived by telling them that the collection of the electricity subsidy was to improve the service, when it was used to benefit the private sector. “They (the companies) do not pay anything for the transmission of energy they produce, that is the responsibility of CFE. We are not going to do anything arbitrary, we are reviewing all this that was very harmful to the public interest. “We want free competition, free market, not these conditions of privilege.”
He announced that no later than mid-February they will present the second part of the National Infrastructure Plan on energy matters.
